How this is calculated
- โขTake-home = gross โ federal income tax โ Social Security โ Medicare โ state income tax.
- โขState tax is modelled for no-income-tax states and flat-rate states only. Progressive states (California, New York, New Jersey, etc.) are not yet included, pick "state isn't listed" and the result shows federal + FICA only, which understates your total.
- โขFlat state tax is estimated on gross income; state-specific deductions and exemptions are not applied.
- โขSocial Security is capped at the $184,500 wage base; the 0.9% Additional Medicare tax applies above $200,000 (single) / $250,000 (joint).
- โขPre-tax 401(k), health-insurance premiums, and local/city taxes are not modelled. Estimate for guidance only, not tax advice.

United States take-home pay, answered
Which states are covered?
States with no income tax are modelled exactly, and flat-rate states use their single published rate. Progressive states (California, New York, New Jersey and others) are not modelled yet. Pick "my state isn't listed" and you will get federal plus FICA only, which understates your real deductions. We would rather show you the gap than invent brackets we have not verified.
Does it account for my 401(k) or health insurance?
No. Pre-tax 401(k) contributions, health-insurance premiums, and local or city taxes are not modelled. A real paycheck is usually a little lower than the figure shown here once those come out.
Which tax year does this use?
Tax year 2026, using federal brackets and the standard deduction as published by the IRS and compiled by the Tax Foundation, plus the Social Security Administration's 2026 wage base. Every source is linked directly under the result.
Is this tax advice?
No. It is an estimate for guidance while you compare offers or plan a move. Anything that carries real money should be checked with a tax professional.
